Interactive web feature to help green your home

Abu Dhabi: An interactive web program was launched on Wednesday to increase public awareness on adopting environmentally friendly measures at home.

The program called Green Your Life was jointly launched by the Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Sorouh Real Estate.

The program provides practical tips on how to conserve water and energy whilst reducing household waste.

Available on http://www.ead.ae and www.sorouh.com, the program also offers innovative recipes for home-made cleaning products and handy tips while shopping for electronics.

Green Your Life features advanced animated graphics and 3D virtual tour of a typical UAE home, drawing on designs and concepts from Sorouh.

"The program aims at capturing the interest and educating the 400,000 website visitors we get annually," said Ibtisam Al Harthi, the website administration at EAD told Gulf News.

Al Harthi who worked closely on the project said that interactive programs will appeal to the internet savvy.

It allows people to move around the house at the click of a mouse. The virtual home has information displayed along the way.

For example, clicking on the virtual oven informs that convection ovens are more energy efficient because they cook up to 30 percent faster than a regular oven.

Laila Yousef Al Hassan, Deputy manager of the media section and Fahad Al Ketbi, Chief Commercial officer of Sorouh launched the website at the EAD's headquarters.

"It is an innovative and unique way to promote awareness. We are showing that small changes in behavior within homes add up to big differences in our environment", said Al Hassan.

Al Ketbi said that Sorouh, being a leading developer, is focused on creating sustainable communities for all residents.

"Our commitment to the environment means acting to minimize the environmental impacts of our construction processes. It means creating designs for our properties to ensure smallest possible footprint."

"But sustainability is not just the responsibility of companies, everyone must take individual responsibility," he said.
