HR manager in court for allegedly raping maid
Dubai: An Arab national, working as a human resources manager at a well-known company, denied charges of raping his housemaid repeatedly, even as prosecution said he offered her a settlement to resolve the problem.
The victim told Dubai Criminal Court that A.H.B. took her from his apartment in Abu Dhabi where he lives with his wife and seven children, to a flat in Dubai and raped her against her will after physically abusing her.
She said the incident happened six months back after he told her they were going to have her medical test done for her residency permit.
Records show that A.H.B. left her at the apartment and went to work, before returning in the evening and taking her to his apartment in Abu Dhabi.
A month after the incident, she told prosecution that he asked her to accompany him to Dubai to open a bank account for her and raped her again.
The woman then approached her embassy, which referred her to the police station to lodge a complaint.
A officer testified that the defendant, who is married to two women, offered the victim money and marriage in order to settle the case, saying that he worked in a high position at a high profile company.
He said that he had consensual sex with the maid and that problems between them only started after she claimed she was pregnant.
Three detainees on trial for causing death of another detainee
Dubai: Two detainees M.A., 19 and H.M., 20, are standing trial in Dubai Criminal Court, while a third is standing trial in the Dubai Juvenile Court on charges of attacking two other detainees, injuring one and causing the death of the other.
According to prosecution records, the victim who survived the attack said that the deceased had purchased some items from the police station's supermarket when the defendants stood in his way and ordered him to hand over the items. When the former refused, they attacked him.
He said that when he and the other victim returned to their ward, they were attacked again and that he noticed the deceased holding his chest and breathing heavily trying to ask for his asthma spray.
Forensic tests did not reveal any signs of a heart attack.
Man faces 15 charges
Dubai: A 21-year-old Asian is facing 15 charges before Dubai Criminal Court, including fraud, forgery and using fake documents.
Prosecution stated that the defendant had, along with others, forged eight labour cards and used them to get credit cards from four banks in Dubai after filling 14 bank applications.
Prosecution said the defendant and his accomplices, who are at large, used the credit cards to defraud one of the banks for an amount of Dh138,000, Dh11,763 from a national bank and Dh52,970 from a commercial bank.
