Ras Al Khaimah: A blaze gutted a house on Monday, which proved to have been illegally used as a storage area for tyres.
The fire broke out in the house rented by a group of Arab workers on Shamal Al Rams Street, and the workers turned the house into a store where they kept huge quantities of vehicle tyres.
A senior officer at the Civil Defence Department said the workers were found in direct violation of rules and regulations banning the use of residential houses as stores for products, mainly tyres.
The police officer said that the fire was reported to the Police Operation Room, which directed firefighters to move to the scene to handle the fire.
The firefighters recovered hundreds of tyres of various sizes.
