Hotel in Dubai lends a hand in feeding the hungry around the world

Dubai: Marriott hotel guests and patrons in Dubai will have the option to add Dh5 to their bill, which will go to feed the world's hungry.

Marriott Spirit to Serve the Hungry Campaign, launched on Wednesday, will be applicable to its five hotels in the emirate. Hotel guests and restaurant patrons can donate at least Dh5 to their bill, which will go to feeding the world's hungry.

The programme, which will be a permanent collaboration, aims to collect Dh1.5 million from hotel guests and patrons a year.

However, Sanne Emborg, chairman of the campaign, told a press conference the hotel chain has no plans to add any of their funds to the programme.

"We will not be matching the donations," she said. "The major role right now is to spread the awareness to our associates as well to our guests," she added.

Francisco Giles, general manager of Renaissance Dubai Hotel, did not discount the possibility of contributing to the fund in the future, adding they were "playing it by ear".
