Abu Dhabi: Health Minister Dr Hanif Hassan has reshuffled the UAE National Committee for Combating Swine Flu by removing its chairman, Dr Ali Ahmad Bin Shakar, Gulf News has learnt.

Dr Mahmoud Fikri, Executive Director for Health Policies Affairs at the Ministry of Health (MoH), will take over as chairman of the National Committee for Combating Swine Flu from Tuesday.

The decision was made when Bin Shakar, who is also the adviser to the health minister, was on a business trip abroad to discuss the purchase of H1N1 vaccine.

Gulf News has also learnt from a source at the health ministry that Bin Shakar's role as director general at the ministry has been put on hold until further notice.
