Dubai: Six outstanding young medical and healthcare professionals who received the first award that recognises their contributions have said the award is a motivation for them to give their best to their fields.

Tamayoz (Excellence) awards are designed to stimulate the academic careers of young healthcare professionals.

The Harvard Medical School Dubai Centre (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of Tatweer, presented its Tamayoz awards for excellence in clinical care and medical research to six winners across the Gulf.

Dr Khowla Al Kuraya from Saudi Arabia, who was awarded the Young Physician Award for Research, said she received the award for her distinguished research career developing tools for the management of cancer, especially in the Gulf region.

"It is difficult to be exceptional in the field of scientific research, especially in our region. Therefore, for my works to be selected and published in international medical publications is a push to work even harder and give more," she said.

"The award encourages me to contribute positively to the lives of patients and visitors of medical establishments," said Dr Ali Alobaidli from Abu Dhabi, who was awarded the Young Physician Award for Clinical Care.

He works as a consultant Nephrologist and Chief of Transplant Services at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. Dr Alobaidli is recognised for his outstanding clinical care and leadership in patient and professional education.

Another award winner, Miharu Yamakawa from Japan, said the award motivates her to enhance her performance and learn new skills in the medical field. Miharu who works as a physiotherapist at the Emirates Integrated Medical Centre in Dubai, was given the nursing and healthcare professional award for clinical care.

Nabeela Ahmad from Dubai works as a senior registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at the Department of Health and Medical Services. "Receiving this award is a credit to my career because I am one of the winners in the Gulf region and awarded from an institute like Harvard Medical School Dubai Centre," she said. She won the trainee award for clinical care.

The other winners were Subhi Al Arif from Qatar who was awarded the trainee award for research and Dr Einas Al Eisa from Saudi Arabia, who was awarded the nursing and healthcare professionals award for research.
