Huge quantities of rotten cheese and fake tea seized in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah: Huge quantities of fake tea were seized by authorities in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday.

The authorised agent of the real product submitted a complaint, accusing several supermarkets and shops in Ras Al Khaimah of selling fake products, said Hamad Al Shamsi, Deputy Director, Customer Protection and Intellectual Property Section, Department of Economic Development, RAK.

Shaikha Hussain Al Ali, head of Customer Protection and Intellectual Property Section at the department, said inspectors were instructed to check out the veracity of the complaints.

"Following a check, huge quantities of fake tea were seized from supermarkets and groceries, which were heavily fined and given official warning letters," she said.

The violating outlets were warned of tough penalties in case of repeated offence.

Also on Monday, civic inspectors seized large quantities of rotten cheese from a key supermarket in the emirate.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director General of RAK Municipality, said inspectors acted upon a complaint filed by an Emirati, claiming that the cheese he bought from the supermarket was rotten.

Al Shamsi said inspectors raided the supermarket and seized huge quantities of rotten cheese.
