4-year-old girl dies of food poisoning, family survives
Sharjah: A four-year-old girl died of food poisoning yesterday morning. Her parents and eight-year-old brother are recuperating at the Al Qasimi hospital in Sharjah.
The Indian family of four, who live Al Buhaira Corniche, rushed to the hospital at 2.30am on Sunday after a series of vomiting bouts.
The girl's father, Faisal, drove the entire family to the hospital where his daughter Marwan died in the early hours of the morning while his son, wife and he survived.
Dr Fatima Ebrahim, medical director of Al Qasimi Hospital, confirmed that the family had suffered from food poisoning.
She said: "When the family came to the hospital they had diarrhoea and [were] vomiting. We are also carrying out an investigation into the matter and have informed the department of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health.
"The laboratory results will also be forwarded to them. The police will get involved depending on the laboratory results." Dr Fatima said that the surviving family members were all doing much better and were recuperating.
"But the family is grieving for their loss and is very distressed. Given their circumstances, they will be discharged today or tomorrow," she said.
Mohammad Ameen, the children's uncle said that his niece died with her parents by her side.
He said that family will fly the body of Marwa to India for burial.
