Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Saqer Al Khalifa has been appointed as governor of the Central Governorate, and Ahmed Mohsin Salloum as governor of the Northern Governorate, both for a period of four years.
Bahrain will hold its first municipal elections in more than 25 years on May 9. The elected municipal councils will assist officials of governorates in performing civic services.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who chairs the Committee for Implementation of the National Action Charter (NAC), met yesterday members of the committee "to thank them and recognise their efforts in shouldering the national task assigned to them", BNA said.
The agency added: "Sheikh Salman hailed the role of the sub-committees for their contribution towards translating the noble principles of the NAC into a framework formula of social and economic developments and boosting the democratic and constitutional march of the kingdom in conformity with the sublime will of His Majesty Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa."
The Crown Prince also affirmed that "the coming stage will witness further progress and action within the formula of cohesion and unity among the people of the Bahraini single family."
