UAE and Japan embark on broader cooperation

Tokyo: The UAE and Japan vowed to strengthen bilateral and economic ties and take them to broader horizons.

The pledge was made on Monday by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during his meeting with Emperor Akihito of Japan and Yasuo Fukuda, Prime Minister of Japan. Shaikh Mohammad met separately with Emperor Akihito and Fukuda and discussed bilateral ties and ways to develop them.

As he hailed the historic relations between the UAE and Japan, Shaikh Mohammad conveyed greetings from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Emperor, who asked him to convey his greeting to Shaikh Khalifa.

Call to companies

Shaikh Mohammad called on Japanese companies and investors to benefit from the liberal policies and economic openness in the UAE to set up strategic partnerships with Abu Dhabi's investors and businessmen.

He underlined the distinguished political, economic and commercial ties between the UAE and Japan.

On the sidelines of the visit, six agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed by the UAE and Japan.

The agreements include financing the Fujairah 2 project, the financing of Adnoc projects, a memorandum of understanding on promoting investment opportunities and an agreement on developing solar towers.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, met yesterday Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komora.
