Here are key events for the Dubai Cares initiative.
September 19, 2007: Shaikh Mohammad launched the Dubai Cares initiative to educate more than a million children worldwide.
September 21: Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ambassador of the Dubai Cares for School Campaign visited Comoros as part of the initiative.
October 2: Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Cares ambassador visits Sudan to gauge the educational needs of the country's children.
November 9: Dubai Cares fund drive campaign concludes its activities at midnight after collecting Dh1.7 billion as donations.
November 25: Shaikh Mohammad announces that he would match the figure raised by the Dubai Cares campaign. A total of Dh3.4 billion raised.
January 2, 2008: Thousands of children from the destroyed Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr Al Bared in Lebanon return to school in the new year thanks to a donation of Dh4.7 million from Dubai Cares.
January 27: Microsoft Corporation and Dubai Cares charity campaign join forces to enable children in developing countries to enter the digital age by providing them with the latest technology in education.
February 20: Dubai Cares and Unicef announce a new partnership to boost children's access to education.
February 24: Dubai Cares announces the launch of the first project in Djibouti with $1.84 million budget to benefit up to 100,000 students.
April 16: Dubai Cares announces Dh60.9 million for education in Sudan through Save the Children charity.
