Electronic-voting with the aid of information technology
Electronic voting is the selection of candidates using information technology, instead of filling out the traditional forms and depositing them in ballot boxes.
The results are then stored in highly protected computers to ensure transparency, accuracy and security.
According to the National Election Committee, e-voting is an essential element of e-elections, where IT is utilised at stages including the registration of nominees and voters, verification of voter identity, and electronic separation and counting of votes.
It is hoped that the system will be user-friendly and maintain security, as well as privacy for the electorate.
This technology will be used in the identification and verification of voters, the voting process and the separation and counting of the votes.
The process of voting
1. Verification of voter's ID
2. Voter swipes his ID or passport through electronic reader
3. Voter selects candidates to vote for according to the voter's emirate
4. Voter confirms selection
5. A list of selected candidates is printed
6. The list is deposited in the ballot box
