Agreement will help in the transfer of peaceful technology

Abu Dhabi: The US-UAE 123 agreement, when it comes into force, will open a broader array of peaceful nuclear cooperation between the UAE and the United States, US Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel B. Poneman said on Wednesday.

"The diplomatic formalities on both sides need to be enforced for the agreement to come into force," said Poneman.

"The agreement will usher in an era of peaceful nuclear cooperation and help in the transfer of nuclear technology from the US to the UAE," he added.

"It is a very important time in moving forward on the nuclear agenda. The 123 provides a legal framework, it establishes legal ability of the two countries to trade with each other," he said. During his trip he met General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
