Three-day meeting in Abu Dhabi to explore ways to conserve migratory birds of prey

Abu Dhabi: A three-day meeting to conclude the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia will begin in Abu Dhabi on Monday with delegates from around 50 countries attending.

The meeting, which is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Chairman of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), is co-organized by EAD, the United Nations Environment Programme's Convention on Migratory Species (CMS); and UK's Department of Food and Agriculture is also a key partner in this initiative.

Delegates attending the meeting includes representatives from Angola, Armenia, Burundi, Chad, Croatia, Congo, Djibouti, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Kenya, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Senegal, Sudan, Togo, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Yemen, Azerbaijan, Russia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Mongolia, Norway, Portugal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

"During this meeting, we aim to finalize an agreement and action plan on measures to conserve more than 70 species of migratory birds of prey in Africa and Eurasia region," said Abdulnasser Al Shamsi, Director of Biodiversity Management Sector - Terrestrial at EAD.
