Sharjah: Under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and honorary patron of the Sharjah Businesswomen’s Council (SBWC), the ‘Tawasel’ initiative organised a charity auction to support the education of orphans in the country.

The auction was organised in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the SBWC under the supervision of Christie’s Auction - World and Canvas Art. The event was held in accordance with Shaikh Sultan’s vision that education is the real yardstick in terms of social development and goes a long way as an investment to ensure a prosperous future for various sections of society in general and orphans in particular.

The fund, which is a non-profit organisation, shoulders the task of providing necessary support for orphans to pursue their university education, and enhance their intellectual and cultural horizons.

Expressing his joy at the initiative, Shaikh Sultan said: “I was hoping always to establish a community guided by solidarity, and orphans are an integral segment of our society — improving their lot is our duty. I feel very pleased with the role played by Shaikha Jawaher Al Qasimi in this field and, on our part, we are ready to provide all forms of support.”

Shaikha Jawaher thanked the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sharjah Businesswomen’s Council as well as artists who participated in the charity event, noting that she hoped to continue the spirit of giving with the participation of all institutions of society and its members to achieve the objectives of the programme to serve the community and its members as a whole.
