Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) took part in the ‘Sustainable Buildings’ exhibition organised by the Society of Engineers in the UAE on Tuesday.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dewa, was present during the inauguration of the exhibition along with senior Dewa officials.

Held on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Society of Engineers’ office in Dubai, the two-day event highlights the latest trends in green buildings and ways to applying them across the government and residential sectors.

“We, at Dewa, implement the concept of sustainable buildings, in addition to implementing effective strategies for demand management and conservation by drawing on efficient technologies. We are also reviewing new initiatives for optimising demand to further strengthen sustainable development and conserve our natural resources,” Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, said.

The exhibition’s highlight was Dewa’s Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, which is the country’s first sustainable building.

It is the largest government building in the world with a platinum rating for green buildings from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the US Green Building Council institute. From a set rating criteria for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings, homes and neighbourhoods in the world, Dewa’s Sustainable Building achieved 98 out of 110 points.

“Dewa’s Sustainable Building has become a benchmark in the field of green buildings. We consistently receive requests from government departments and private organisations across the globe to visit our building. This proves our success in pursuing and implementing international standards,” Al Tayer said.
