Cold wind brings light rain in the UAE and more is expected, forecasters say
Al Ain/Dubai: Rain showers affected much of the UAE yesterday and there could be more wet weather today, forecasters said.
Dark clouds blanketed the sky from early in the morning in Dubai and at about 11am the rain began.
Sharjah also experienced rain yesterday and many parts of the country that stayed dry were blanketed by heavy clouds.
Mohammad Ekram Qureshi, Senior Meteorologist at the Central Forecasting Office of the UAE Meteorology (Met) Department, said cold winds coming from Europe were responsible for the rain.
"The winds coming from Europe are currently passing over the UAE and they result in a fall in temperature and rain here," he said.
Forecasters said there was a chance of more rain today and added that the wet conditions could return in a few days' time with another wave of cold winds pushing into the region.
"This wave of cold wind is currently in the Mediterranean region," Qureshi added.
Yesterday's maximum temperature in Dubai was 22C and the minimum was 19C. Today the maximum is likely to be similar at 22C or 23C.
The minimum temperature, however, is likely to be a lot lower than yesterday at 15C, since reduced cloud cover yesterday evening was expected to release much of the heat overnight and result in cool temperatures this morning.
