The engineering and consulting firm, Engineers India Ltd (EIL), has secured total contracts of Dh6.60 million ($1.8 million) in the one year since the re-establishment of its presence in Abu Dhabi, an official said.
"The company's business is bound to grow. By the end of next year we expect to grow two to three times," said Rakesh K. Mehrotra, in charge of EIL, Abu Dhabi.
The New Delhi-headquartered company re-opened its Abu Dhabi office in July 2001 to cater to the Gulf markets. EIL has undertaken small projects in the oil and gas sector.
"However, we plan to undertake medium-sized projects in the coming months. There are many projects coming up not only in the UAE but in the neighbouring countries, too."
EIL is also looking at focusing on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) projects rather than only engineering projects. However, Abu Dhabi will be the nucleus of the company's operations in the region.
"Our final aim is to do jobs from Abu Dhabi with support from our New Delhi office."
The company has a core team of engineers in Abu Dhabi, and EIL undertakes jobs from "concept to commissioning and detailed engineering of projects in the oil and gas sectors".
Major jobs undertaken in the last one year in the UAE by EIL include those for Adnoc companies such as Takreer, Adma-Opco, Gasco and Adco.
Currently underway is a front end engineering and design (Feed) project for Adma-Opco in the Zakum field.
"We are also in the bidding for a Feed project of Adco while we completed a Feed project for Gasco three months ago at the Bab and Bu Hasa fields."
The company is also bidding for a Dh183.5 ($50 million) project of Adco at the Asab field in a joint venture with National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPCC).
EIL, the official said, has done prequalification and consultancy jobs for the ambitious Dolphin gas project. It had also partnered NPCC in consultancy work for the Maqta-Jebel Ali gas pipeline project.
EIL's total turnover for 2001 was Rs7.8 billion with a net profit of Rs1.9 billion. The company has small offices in Qatar and Kuwait.
