Employers must pay labour card fines, says ministry

Abu Dhabi: The Labour Ministry will not waive any fines incurred by an employer for failing to renew a worker's labour card as long as the worker is still in the country, said a ministry official.

Khalil Khoury, director of the work permits department, said as long as the worker is still a resident in the country, then the employer cannot request to waive the fine imposed on it for failing to get the labour card renewed on time.

Obaid Rashid Al Zahmi, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Labour, along with Khoury received about 28 complaints at the ministry's open day.
