Zayed University to launch masters degree in cyber security

Dubai: Zayed University (ZU) will launch a masters degree programme on cyber security, marking the first course of its kind in the region, next October.

Graduates of the programme will be prepared to detect, prevent and mitigate threats to systems and data in order to protect the critical information infrastructure of the UAE, said Dr Leon Jololian ZU's Acting Dean of College of Information Technology (CIT).

The announcement came yesterday during an awareness seminar organised by CIT, held at ZU's Institute for Technological Innovation in Dubai's Knowledge Village, and the launch of three new innovative graduate programmes that are scheduled to commence in October 2008.

Dr Sulaiman Al Jasem, ZU's Vice President, told Gulf News yesterday this is the first time that such a course is being launched in the UAE and the region.

He said: "Capitalising on ... academic programmes and an exceptional international faculty, the CIT and its international partner George Washington University in Washington DC offer the Master of Science in Information Technology with a specialisation in Cyber Security, the Graduate Certificate in Information Security, and the Graduate Certificate in High Technology Crime Investigation."
