Sara Saleh delves behind the philosophy of a best-selling book that offers an alternative to scientific facts
THE SECRET
By Rhonda Byrne
Often thrown into the self-help genre, this book loosely follows a chapter-by-chapter, documentary style format to present its secret - the Law of Attraction.
Featuring pages of dramatised experiences and interviews with a number of relevant figures - including spiritual messengers, feng shui masters, personal transformation specialists and money-making experts - the book plays on the relationship between people's feelings and thoughts and the real world events they 'attract' into their lives.
The author places great importance on the concept when people interact, and the physical, emotional and professional aspects they experience.
On a journey discovering what the universe does for you, and how, Byrne defines this law as the "most powerful" in the universe.
According to the author it is a rule that is present all the time, helping or hindering us in creating circumstances in our lives through the choices we make.
Success, according to Byrne is dependent on how well we know the secret and how we use it to our advantage to get what we want.
You may not be a believer and may even think it is all nonsense, however, The Secret is one writer's attempt to present an explanation -plausible or not - different to the dominant scientific view. It may require a little convincing and faith, but may end up providing a motivational push for its readers.
A highly interesting book that will leave you stimulated by presenting a number of interesting ideas.
