Dubai: More than Dh736 million have been raised so far in support of the Dubai Cares campaign, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The amount donated is way beyond the initial target of Dh200 million to support education for poor children around the world. In line with his role in the campaign, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, expressed the Dubai Government's commitment to support the campaign, Wam reported yesterday.

Shaikh Hamdan called for the proceeds from an auction of vehicle number plates and six weeks of Salik toll revenues to be donated to the cause. He also directed the Dubai Road and Transport Authority to display hoardings of Dubai Cares on Salik toll gates.

He also urged Dubai residents to contribute generously to the campaign. Residents can donate by purchasing Dubai Cares merchandise available for sale at select Enoc and Eppco petrol stations.

Meanwhile, prominent philanthropist Juma Al Majid called on expatriates - businessmen and individuals - to donate generously to the charity project. Al Majid said the unique project will cover countries like India, Pakistan and the underprivileged in the sub-continent region will gain from the project.
