Dubai: Donations continued to flow in for the second consecutive day yesterday, with etisalat pledging Dh25 million and UAE national businessman Ziyad Galadari offering Dh6 million to the Dubai Cares initiative.

Dubai Cares was unveiled on Wednesday by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to put one million children through school in poor countries.

The amount pledged so far has already exceeded Dh90 million, with companies seeing the campaign as an opportunity to exercise goodwill towards needy children.

According to sources, the initial target of the drive is Dh200 million.

Shaikh Mohammad's sons and daughters have also been assigned to lead the charity efforts with a range of campaigns due to launch this week.

Shaikh Mayed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid yesterday visited Comoros as part of the initiative.
