Visitor jailed for trying to pick-pocket man

Dubai: A visitor has been jailed for tripping a victim who was walking on a street and attempting to pick-pocket him of about Dh209,000, ruled a court.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 31-year-old Ethiopian visitor, E.K., to six months in jail. He will be deported after serving his imprisonment.

The Public Prosecution charged the accused and another runaway with tripping the Bangladeshi salesman and pushing him down to the floor and attempting to snatch the money from his pocket.

Escape

The 25-year-old salesman, B.S., foiled the suspect's attempt by holding firmly on to the money when the suspects tried to take it away.

"It was 11 in the morning when I took the money from my boss and went to deposit it in a bank near the Gold Souq. The boss also gave my colleague who escorted me Dh100,000... suddenly a man who was hiding behind a telephone booth jumped out and tripped me before the accused pushed me to the floor. The visitor tried to snatch away the money, but I held it firmly and stopped him from stealing it. Some bystanders, my colleague and I chased the duo and managed to stop E.K. - the other suspect managed to escape."
