AJMAN : An Emirati man, who underwent eye surgery following a scuffle with a doctor and a security guard at Ajman's GMC Hospital on November 30, still does not know he has lost sight in his right eye.

Omran Hassan's family members have been told by doctors not to disclose the truth to him until he gets completely healed.

From his bed at Ajman's Khalifa Hospital, Hassan, 22, denied to XPRESS a GMC Hospital official's claim that he went there to renew a prescription for controlled drugs,

"I was suffering from abdominal pain," said Hassan, adding that he was waiting in the queue when a security guard pushed him on his chest.

"He pushed me again and I fell on the doctor who was standing behind me," he said. According to him, the doctor punched him in the eye without even asking what was happening. The doctor who allegedly damaged Hassan's eye with a pen is being held at the Ajman Central Jail.

Future in doubt

Hassan's father said his son had submitted an application to join Ajman Police. "Who will hire him now?" he asked.

Meanwhile, the wife of the doctor said she learnt about the incident from the papers, adding that she hasn't been able to talk to him. "I'm in the dark because I haven't met him," she said.
