Scores hurt in drunken brawl at Jebel Ali Industrial area
Dubai: Scores of people were injured in a drunken brawl in the Jebel Ali Industrial area on Sunday night and many were taken to hospital for teatment, police said.
An Indian and a Pakistani, both of them drunk, sparked off the fight, police said. Then the relatives of both the men joined in the fight.
Colonel Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said police will soon refer seven people to the Public Prosecution.
He said seven people were taken by ambulance to Rashid and Al Baraha Hospitals for moderate and minor injuries. He said police patrols, CID teams and ambulances went to the scene as soon as receiving the report. Police managed to control the situation and stopped the fight, he said.
Col Al Mansouri said police patrols are still stationed at the scene to prevent recurrence of the fight. He said the search is also on for others who took part in the fight and investigations are on to determine the motive behind the fight.
Dr Mustafa Al Hashemi, Director of Al Baraha Hospital, said the hospital received 27 injured people, all of them were minor injuries and bruises and they were discharged from hospital. One person with a broken hand is still being treated at the hospital.
Dr Victor Boutros, Accidents in-charge at Rashid Hospital, said the hospital received 32 injured people in the fight, 28 of them had sustained minor injuries and bruises. They were treated and discharged, while another five sustained minor injuries and are being treated at the hospital.
Col Al Mansouri said the search is also on for others who took part in the fight and investigations are on to determine the motive behind the fight.
