Sharjah: Police have arrested an Arab labourer within hours after he killed his co-worker in the early hours of Tuesday.

The operation control room received a call at 2am about a murder that took place in a deserted building at Nasseriya. Units from the Criminal Investigation Department and patrols from Al Hera police station rushed to the scene of the crime and found the victim's body lying on a mattress on the rooftop.

During the investigation Sharjah Police found that the victim, identified as H.A.K, was killed by a blow to the head with a piece of wood.

Eyewitnesses told police a heated argument broke out between the Egyptian suspect, A.A.A., and his co-worker the night before the incident. Their colleagues interfered and disrupted the argument. The suspect then killed his co-worker in the middle of the night while he was asleep.

The suspect immediately fled the scene, but was arrested within a few hours after police tracked him down. He confessed to the murder during interrogation. On further investigation, police found the suspect had entered the country on a visit visa three years ago and was living illegally in Sharjah.

Police discovered the building was home to numerous illegal residents, who were sent to the Naturalisation and Residency Department in Sharjah for deportation.

The case has been transferred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
