Man's flatmates 'beat him up'

Last updated:

Dubai: Three men have been charged with endangering their flatmate's life by deliberately driving into his car, beating him up and stealing his cell phone.

The Public Prosecution charged 26-year-old Pakistani S.A. with purposely colliding with his flatmate's vehicle, causing damage totalling Dh2,000. He was also charged, along with other suspects, with beating the 31-year-old man identified as S.H., and stealing his phone.

Twenty-three-year-old Pakistani M.O. and his 28-year-old compatriot R.A., were charged with aiding and abetting S.A.

Fight

S.A. denied the charges before the Dubai Court of First Instance. Meanwhile the other two suspects were not brought from detention.

S.H, also a Pakistani, testified before the Public Prosecution: "We all live together in one flat. The flat supervisor, H., phoned me and informed me that the suspects had turned the flat upside down and destroyed the washroom and television at 3am and asked me to go there in my car.

"When I got close to the flat, S.A.'s car appeared before mine and he suddenly braked. I hit his car and then a second car collided with my vehicle from behind in such a way that I was sandwiched between the two vehicles. Seven men walked towards me, they pulled me out and beat me for three minutes."

The man claimed that they stole his mobile phone and continued beating him until some bystanders stopped the fight.

"They left me in my car on Khalid Bin Al Walid Street and they disappeared... when I returned home the police had already reached the place," he added.
