Man arrested at Dubai airport with 3kg of cocaine

Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested a South African man at Dubai International Airport for possessing more than 3kg of Cocaine.

A police officer in the combating narcotics department of Dubai Police had suspicions about one of the passengers in the transit area. The suspected South African was flying from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to a press statement from the police, the suspect was taken from the transit area to a specialised room for scanning luggage that was believed to be holding the illegal substance.

The police found more than 3kg of cocaine in his suitcase and upon interrogating the suspect, he claimed that he was transferring the substance for $1,000 (Dh 3,670).

The suspect was referred to the public prosecution for further investigations.
