Five in the dock for assaulting accountant

Dubai: Five men, who allegedly beat and kicked an accountant when he tried to stop them from running away in minibus after stealing his Dh50,000 stood trial on Monday.

Records said the incident happened when the 29-year-old Indian accountant noticed his compatriot suspects chasing him wanting to steal the four bags of money which he collected from the textiles company where he works.

The alleged victim claimed that he saved two moneybags when he threw them above the villa fence where he lives but the other two fell outside.

Police reports said the accountant, A.W., chased the suspects when they picked up the two moneybags that fell outside the fence and tried to escape in the minibus which awaited them.

The Public Prosecution charged suspects, L.K., a welder, 30-year-old O.P., A.S. who is a barber, M.R. and machine operator M.A., with stealing the bags.

The welder and the barber confessed to their charges when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance. The rest pleaded not guilty.
