Fifteen motorists licences confiscated for traffic violations

Abu Dhabi: Fifteen driver's licenses of motorists who committed serious offences have been confiscated over the past five days by the Traffic Police across the UAE after the new traffic law came into effect on March 1, senior officials told Gulf News.

“Four driver's licenses, two belonging to UAE nationals and two to Arab expatriates, were confiscated in Abu Dhabi alone. While two licenses were taken away for drunk driving the other two were for reckless driving and jumping red lights'', said Colonel Hamad Adil Al Shamsi, the Director of the Department of Traffic and patrol police, at a press conference yesterday.

1051 black points have been incurred by the drivers in Abu Dhabi until Thursday, he said, adding that the strict implementation of the new law will help curb traffic offences.

Studies conducted by the Police revealed that human error was the main cause of traffic accidents.
