Eight killed in Sharjah during Eid holidays
Sharjah: Eight people, including children, died and 16 other injured in various accidents in Sharjah during the Eid Al Fitr holidays, according to Sharjah police.
More than 1,840 traffic accidents were registered during the Eid Al Fitr holiday in Sharjah, which ran from last Monday to yesterday, out of which 635 occurred on the last day of Ramadan.
On the first day of Eid, police registered 116 minor traffic accidents. There were no casualties except for one on Marqab Street. A nine-year-old Pakistani boy was critically injured when the car he was in hit another vehicle. On Tuesday evening, seven cars collided into each other at the Al Wahda area, which left three vehicles charred.
On the second day of Eid, police registered 326 minor traffic accidents. A.A., a UAE national, 50, was killed as he was driving along Sharjah Ring Road and crashed into another motorist, identified as J. Singh, Indian, 35, who sustained serious injuries.
In addition, a car fell off Al Hadeeb Bridge number two on the Sharjah Ring Road. The owner of the vehicle ran away, which implied that he did not sustain serious injuries.
On Wednesday, a two-and-a-half year old Indian child fell off the balcony from her fourth floor apartment in Al Ghuwair, behind Al Rolla Centre. The child died from the injuries.
On the third day of Eid, police registered 395 minor traffic accidents and three fatal accidents. A three-year-old Pakistani boy, M.A. drowned in Al Jazeera Park while playing away from his parents' view. Later, a young Syrian man, M.O., was run over on Emirates Road between Al Thiqah Handicapped Club and Industrial Area Bridge number Five. A Pakistani man was also run over while crossing Al Ittihad Road towards Al Ansar Mall. Police reported that an Indian man, B.R. Singh, 30, was electrocuted while working at a car workshop in Industrial Area 10.
On Friday, police reported 284 traffic accidents. S.M. a UAE national, 39, was killed in a traffic accident as his car overturned at around 2.30pm in Al Madam Al Shouaib Street. Eleven members of two families were injured in a separate accident at Al Badee'ah area. A UAE national, H.M., 14, was killed when he lost control of his car near Al Khawaneej Bridge.
