Court acquits suspect due to lack of evidence

Dubai: A driver has been cleared of molesting a seven-year-old schoolboy while driving him from his school to his home in Al Ghusais.

Citing lack of evidence, the Dubai Court of First Instance acquitted the 42-year-old Pakistani driver, A.A., of molesting the Emirati schoolboy.

“No, I am not guilty. I did not molest him or even touch him,” said the driver.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said A.A. molested the schoolboy in the back seat of his car while driving him home.

The boy’s father testified that his wife called him on February 24 and told him their son had been molested in the driver’s car.

“I rushed back home and my wife claimed to me that the driver, who drives our son to school, abused or molested him. When I asked my son what happened, he claimed that the suspect groped him and did indecent stuff to him while driving him home. My son told me that it was not the first time that the driver had behaved like that with him. My boy also claimed that he refused to remove his clothes when the driver asked him to do so. I called the driver, identified as M.Y., who usually takes my son to school but he didn’t answer. When I asked my son if it was M.Y. who had molested him, my boy denied it and claimed it was someone else,” he said.

Records said the boy’s father reported the matter to the police. Police later told the father initial investigations showed A.A. had committed the alleged offence.
