Police officer pulls nine-year-old from suspect's car after hearing her screams

Sharjah: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man who alllegedly intended to rape a nine-year-old Moroccan girl after the school bus dropped her off at home.
Brigadier Abdullah Al Dukhan, Deputy Director of Sharjah Police, told Gulf News the incident took place on Monday afternoon in the Al Qadissiya area, and that the girl was rescued by Major Hamad Abdullah Al Rayami, from the Criminal Investigation Department, who happened to be nearby.
The incident took place at 2.45pm on Monday, and a man was arrested within four hours.
"The [girl] was dropped off near her house, and was then approached by the suspect," said Brig Al Dukhan, who said the suspect had no identification documents.
"The suspect asked the girl for directions for nearby schools and then instructed her to get inside her car to show him exactly where they were located. Out of her naivety, she listened and soon found herself kidnapped and heading to an abandoned home," said Brig Al Dukhan.
"The suspect tried to assault the pupil in the car, and the girl started to scream and cry for help. One of the neighbours, who happened to be a police major, heard her cries and went to see what was happening."
When Major Al Rayami saw the girl in the vehicle, he pulled her out of the passenger door, while the suspect tried to run him over with the vehicle.
"The Major was able to identify the car number plates and within four hours, we arrested the suspect," said Brig Al Dukhan.
The man has been detained and the case has been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
