A court dropped a case against a businessman charged with attempting to kill his girlfriend after he died
Dubai: A court dropped a case against a businessman charged with attempting to kill his girlfriend after he died.
The Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday dropped the case against the 39-year-old Emirati businessman, A.K., who earlier denied that he had attempted to murder his 27-year-old Indonesian girlfriend, N.B., leaving her with a permanent disability.
"The court dropped the case against the suspect due to his death," said the presiding judge.
Available court records did not indicate the cause of A.K.'s death. He is believed to have died in detention.
"I don't remember what happened on that day. I suffer a mental illness and was under medication. Police brought me in for questioning and they informed about what I did," A.K. had said when he defended himself in court.
Prosecutors said A.K. stabbed N.B. with a knife with the intention of killing her.
Threatening
Paramedics and swift medical intervention helped save her life.
Prosecutors said the victim sustained ten per cent permanent disability.
The defendant was also charged with threatening to kill three men if they told police that he stabbed N.B.
The housemaid said she and A.K. had a sexual affair for two years.
"On the day of the incident, we dined then he went out and returned sweating. A knife fell from under his clothes. We had a heated argument that developed into a scuffle. I prevented him from stabbing me and ran out," said N.B.
