Abu Dhabi: Fire erupted in a caravan, parked at a building construction site, and spread to a nearby residential building this evening, rescue officials told Gulf News.

No fatalities or injuries were reported as rescue and civil defence teams were able to evacuate the building.

The incident happened behind the Peugeot car showroom along Salam Street.

"The fire started in the caravan. It then spread to the ground floor of the nearby building and further to the balconies on the fifth and sixth floor", said a rescue official.

"Luckily, no one was within the caravan at the time", he added. Rubbish heaps near the caravan may have fuelled the fire, he noted, based on preliminary investigations.

The fire was quickly brought under control with the help of two quick intervention teams and involvement of teams from four fire stations, officials said.
