Business as usual after Atlantis fire

Last updated:

Dubai: The fire at the Atlantis resort on the Palm Jumeirah on Tuesday did not cause any major damage and will not affect the opening date, say officials.

In an email to Gulf News on Wednesday, Alan Leibman, Managing Director of Kerzner International, the owner of Atlantis, described the damage as "limited".

"Jim Boocher, President of Kerzner International Development, and I have further assessed the situation after the contained fire at Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah resort on Tuesday morning," Leibman said.

It is unclear how much it will cost to repair the damage caused by the fire or how long it will take to complete. There was no direct reply when questioned on whether the fire had been started by an electrical fault.

The opening is planned for September 24.
