Boy run over by school bus in Sharjah

Sharjah: The driver of a school bus was taken into police custody following an accident on Thursday that left a Grade 7 Syrian pupil seriously injured.

The conductor has also been questioned by Sharjah police.

The driver was taken to Al Heria police custody for interrogation as he faced charges of neglect for leaving the bus unattended while the engine was running and pupils were entering the bus.

The boy was seriously injured and was taken for treatment at Al Qassimi hospital after being run over accidently by the school bus.

The bus was about to leave the school with fellow students to drop the pupils to their homes at the end of the school day around 1pm.

Police said that one of the pupils put his school bag beside the bus manual gear shift and pulled it out of park by accident. The student pulled the shift into reverse and when it backed up, it collided with a Syrian boy identified as L.A.M, who was standing behind the vehicle’s and sustained serious injuries.

School staff informed the family and an ambulance transferred the boy to Al Qassimi hospital for treatment.

Sharjah Police blamed school administration for leaving pupils without a supervisor who should joined them while making their way to their buses.

The school staff should ensure the safety of students who are travelling on buses, said police.

Sharjah police held recently many campaigns against leaving engines of cars in running condition, motorists are being warned not to leave their cars unattended while the engine is running, otherwise they will face fine and charges.
