International conference to also focus on anti-corruption measures
Dubai Best practices in crime investigation, anti-corruption measures for the prosecution service, and protection of parties, will be discussed at an international meeting of prosecutors here.
The sixth International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Middle East and Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on the theme of public prosecution in the 21st century will be hosted by the Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) from November 14 to 16.
"The theme is topical and representative of the fast-paced, technology-driven life of today's world," stated Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai Attorney General.
"We are confident that the enlightened discourses by the expert participants and their direct interaction will be in an interesting experience, and will further enrich the work of frontline public prosecutors in the Middle East, Asia and Pacific regions," said the statement posted on the event's websites www.dppevents.ae and www.dpp.events.com (available in English and Arabic).
This is the first time an IAP conference is being convened in the Middle East thus making it an opportunity for the region to network .
Key topics
The opening ceremony will be held at Atlantis Hotel while The Address Hotel, Downtown Burj Dubai, will host the main events on November 15 and 16.
Use of information technology in the prosecution process and risk management will be key topics for the meeting. The first topic covers the best practices in investigation techniques and use of information technology in litigation. The second topic includes anti-corruption measures for the prosecution service and protection of parties of litigation — victims, suspects, witnesses, and prosecutors and evidence and data protection.
The speakers include Francois Falletti, IAP's President and Prosecutor General at Court of Aix en Provence (South of France), William Kiley, Immediate Past President International Association for Property and Evidence in the US, Ben Swagerman, Senior Vice-President, Security Services, at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Netherlands, James Hamilton, Director of Public Prosecutions, Ireland, Nicholas Cowdery, Director of Public Prosecutions, New South Wales, Australia, and Harm Nanne Brouwer, Chairman of Board of Procurators-General, The Netherlands.
The IAP is a worldwide association of prosecutors and has been in existence for over 14 years. It is a non-governmental, non-political organisation that was established at the United Nations offices in Vienna in June 1995 as a response to the rapid growth in transnational crime.
