Abu Dhabi: The ninth meeting of the Archaeozoology of Southwest Asia and Adjacent Areas (ASWA) Working Group, a sub-group of the International Council for Archaeozoology (ICAZ), will be held in Al Ain from November 16 to 20, an official said.

Archaeozoology is the study of the relationships between humans and animals over time. It usually involves the study of animal bones from archaeological sites.

This is carried out to provide a deeper understanding of past environments and subsistence economies.

"From its strategy of protecting and promoting cultural heritage, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage continues the implementation of a number of current and future projects concerned with organising and developing the means necessary to oversee archaeological restoration, survey and exploration in accordance with scientific methods based on approved global standards," said Mohammad Al Neyadi, Director of the Department of the Historical Environment, in a press conference held yesterday at the Cultural Foundation.

Between 30 to 60 specialists from 14 different countries of the region usually attend. Around 50 papers will be presented.
