Abu Dhabi civic body progresses on plan to take services online
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi residents will not have to visit municipal offices to get their works done as most municipal services will go online soon, an official told Gulf News on Monday.
"Our objective to make about 90 per cent services available online within five years is progressing well. About 15 per cent of the services will go online by the end of this year", said Engineer Khalid H.A.K. Al Shehhi, Manager of Strategic Planning (SP) Division at SP and Performance Management Sector of Abu Dhabi Municipality.
"We are working hard to make about 50 per cent of the services online by the end of 2009", he said.
About 23 services such as building permits, land and real estate services, and submission of a number of applications have already gone online.
Municipality has single-point customer service centres at various locations that will also be improved with new buildings to provide more services.
Strategy
All these initiatives are part of the five year strategy whose progress is reviewed every three months by Abu Dhabi Executive Council and by an internal mechanism of the Municipality, said the official. There are seven priority areas for a total of 76 initiatives and about 60 of them have already been started, said the official. The internal review mechanism called 'strategic cafe' led by Juma'a Al Junaibi, General Manager and senior officials, has been held twice since the five-year strategy was announced in May.
An experimental initiative of the Municipal Council has been set up in Western Region Municipality (WRM) which will be extended to Abu Dhabi City and Al Ain municipalities.
