'New York has some fantastic places to visit'

Vinay Pathak started his career as a VJ on Channel V, where he teamed up with buddy Ranvir Shorey.

He started his acting career with small roles in films such as Fire, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Jism.

But his acting skills were recognised in the comedy Khosla Ka Ghosla and he became a star overnight with Bheja Fry, which went on to fetch him popular awards in the Bollywood comedy segment.

Since then he has been winning consistent critical acclaim for his performances in films such as Johnny Gaddaar, Manorama Six Feet Under, Aaja Nachle and Mithya.

He became a producer with his recent release Dasvidaniya, which has also wowed critics. Pathak's performance has been hailed as flawless by them.

The actor will next be seen in a pivotal role in Yash Raj Films' Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which also starts Shah Rukh Khan.

Favourite holiday destination: New York

New York will always have a special place in my life as I have spent some of my best years in the city.

New York has a cosmopolitan environment and is a great place to learn from.

You can find people from all over the world and it is great fun interacting with different communities.

There are some fantastic places to visit, such as Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan area.

The other aspect I enjoy about New York is Broadway. So as an actor too, the city attracts me.

Memorable moments in New York

All the moments I have spent with friends in New York. Every time I recall those times, I have the urge to visit my friends in the city.

What not to do in New York

Do not talk to strangers and always try to be yourself.

Three must-haves on a holiday

Passport, wallet and, of course, loads of dollars.

Any other favourite destination?

London is definitely another great place to visit for a holiday.
