Cisco will add 4,000 to workforce in India

New Delhi: Cisco Systems Inc., the biggest network-equipment maker, plans to boost its workforce in India faster than anywhere else to meet surging data traffic.

The total number of employees in India is projected to rise to 10,000 from about 6,000 currently, Chief Executive Officer John Chambers said at a conference in New Delhi yesterday, without specifying a timeframe for the expansion.

Cisco last month predicted accelerating revenue growth as customers resume projects they put off during the recession and said it may add as many as 3,000 jobs to meet increasing demand. The San Jose, California-based company, seeking to boost sales to phone carriers, this week introduced an internet router that will let web users download movies, songs and data faster to computers and mobile devices.
