Dubai: A supervisor appeared in court for the second time in a week on Wednesday, as he stood trial for groping his female co-worker in a lift.
A Nepalese woman porter was said to have accompanied her Indian supervisor, 28, to a building in Al Quoz, to move furniture in July, when the man groped her in the elevator and kissed her.
According to records, the packaging company where the woman and her supervisor worked had been hired to transport the furniture of a client.
The woman reported the matter to the police, who apprehended the supervisor.
Prosecutors charged the suspect of groping and kissing his co-worker.
On Monday, the Dubai Court of First Instance had given the same man a three-month jail term, for groping another co-worker in Bur Dubai.
On Wednesday, the suspect failed to appear in court where he was scheduled to enter his plea.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the suspect will be sentenced in absentia on October 31.
The Nepalese co-worker testified to prosecutors that she accompanied her boss to the building, to move some furniture. “He walked in behind me to the lift. He first touched my hand and then he groped me. He also kissed me against my will. I got angry and pushed him,” she claimed to prosecutors.
A police sergeant claimed to prosecutors that the suspect alleged during questioning that he grabbed the woman to prevent her from falling in the lift and maintained that he didn’t grope her.
