Sportex opens with fanfare

Dubai: The sixth edition of the Sportex exhibition was inaugurated by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and CEO, Road Transport Authority (RTA), at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Monday morning.

Endorsed by Dubai Sports Council and presented by Dubai Sports City, Sportex Middle East is showcasing the very latest in sport, fitness, health, outdoor and stadium equipment in the region this week.

Special events taking place during the show include a bodybuilding Championship, while Mr Olympia Jay Cutler will be visiting the exhibition tomorrow.

"Now in its sixth year, Sportex has grown to become the business arena for the region's sports and leisure industry. Elements such as the bodybuilding championship make this a very vibrant and exciting show, while the increasing number of exhibitors and visitors are testament to the growing interest in health and wellness in the region," said Abdul Rehman Falaknaz, President of show organisers International Expo-Consults (IEC).

The Middle East is billed as one of the world's fastest growing regions for the travel and tourism industry. The region's sports and stadium equipment market alone is worth an estimated US$2 billion.

Strong delegation

China is fielding a strong delegation at the fair with a country pavilion promoting more than 12 exhibitors.

"We are a FIBA-approved manufacturer for wooden sports flooring. Sportex is the right platform to demonstrate our products and to network with the industry," said Philip Chu, international business manager, Merry Group.

One Sportex success story is In Muscle. Last year the company exhibited for the first time with four brands.

This year, they have returned with 25 brands under their belt.
