Shaikha Maitha finds inspiration to succeed at home
Sometimes inspiration is hard to find but Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum does not need to go too far to find hers.
"I have been with and met countless people from different walks of life, but the one person who makes the biggest difference to the way I see and encounter life is my father," she said.
Shaikha Maitha, who will be representing the UAE in the taekwondo at Beijing, is the daughter of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
She said: "He is a sportsman through and through and for quite some time I think I took him for granted though he has been so close to me.
Admired athletes
"During my career, I've met so many sportspersons whom I have admired, and each of them has something unique to offer. But my father is a true sportsman and I truly appreciate what I learn from him each day.
"I think this sort of thing comes a full circle...and you ultimately find what you are searching for is right there besides you at home, so close to you."
Shaikha Maitha says she appreciates all that her father has done for her to help her to a possible medal at the Beijing Olympics.
"My father is my teacher and my biggest supporter, and he is also my harshest critic. I know I have his guidance all the time, and he is there to goad me on.
"I know I am criticised when I try and take on more than I can handle. And I totally agree and respect my dad's opinion as he has a precise vision and foresight."
