Dubai teams sizzle

Five outfits make their way into quarterfinals of Dallah competition

Last updated:

Dubai: The Gulf Men's tournament is poised to dish out a few interesting contests today with five Dubai outfits qualifying for the quarterfinals of the top-tier Dallah (coffee-pot) competition.

Dubai Hurricanes I and II, Dubai Exiles I, Dubai Frogs and Dubai Dragons will be joined by Doha I, Al Ain Amblers and Abu Dhabi Harlequins I in the last eight stage.

While Hurricanes I have drawn the Harlequins, the Exiles will face Al Ain Amblers. Dragons I have been paired with Hurricanes II and Doha I will take on the Frogs in an all-Dubai affair.

Hurricanes I were on fire in yesterday's Group stages and blew away the opposition with much ease to qualify top of Group C. They started their fine run with a crushing 31-0 defeat of the Harlequins and then humbled Bahrain I 26-0. The Frogs provided some kind of resistance, but it wasn't enough to deny the Dubai side a well-earned 14-5 win.

Unblemished record

Meanwhile, Doha I were on top of their game in Group D and they too finished with an unblemished record with resounding victories against Dubai Exiles II and Barrelhouse, whom they thrashed 53-0 and 25-0 respectively.

Harlequins II were the only side that put a fight, but their efforts weren't enough to guarantee victory as the match finished 22-17 in favour of Doha.

Muscat I, Dubai Exiles II, Bahrain I, Sharjah Wanderers, Barrelhouse, Dragons II, Abu Dhabi Harlequins II and Lanka Lions have qualified for the lower-ranked Khanjar event.

Muscat face Sharjah, while the Exiles meet Harlequins II. Bahrain will battle Barrelhouse and the Dragons will be hoping to get the better of the fierce Lanka Lions on the outside pitches today.
