Canoe sprint is simply an event that requires the competitors to complete the course in the fastest possible time.
Course lengths include 200m, 500m and 1,000m on flat waters. Letters K (kayak) and C (canoe) identify the boats.
The number indicates the crew size, and the meterage refers to the distance of the competition. At the Rio 2016 Games, there will be 12 events awarding medals: eight men and four women.
