Dubai: Vignesh Satyarajan and Sahil Badlani emerged as joint leaders in the Nissan children's chess tournament.
The juniors got off to a flying start winning 3 games in a row among 30 participants competing in various categories at Al Fardan Centre, Sharjah.
Vignesh Satyarajan, a class VI student of Our Own English School defeated Talal Warsi in a keenly contested match. Vignesh won with better play in middle game by obtaining material advantage. Rohit Iyengar raced to the top with his third straight victory. Rohit was in excellent form and outplayed Vishaal Venkatesh in a battle of wits.
The talented youngsters were involved with a simultaneous display against world youth chess champions Sahaj Grover and Srinath Narayanan. The champions took turns to play against 30 children and kept their track record to 100 per cent. Srinath said: "The juniors are talented and need more opportunity to gain experience and improve their skills."
Sahaj Grover said, "There is lots of talent and to excel in chess a determined effort and participation in many open and international events is the key to success."
The event is sponsored by Arabian Automobiles who have brought elite players of the world to interact with the chess enthusiast and contribute to development of young talents.
