Dubai: Portuguese star Joao Vittorio Madjer scored a hat-trick as Al Ahli humbled Al Nasr 5-1 to lift the UAE Beach Soccer Super Cup at Al Mamzar Beach on Saturday.

After being beaten by the same opponents in the President’s Cup final last month, Al Ahli scored two goals in the first period, another three in the second period and one more at the end of the third and final period to seal an easy win and gain sweet revenge.

“Today we played as a team,” said Al Ahli skipper Qambhar Mohammad. “We did not want to make the same mistakes that we had committed in the President’s Cup final. We stayed focused and just did the basic things right.”

Dr Ahmad Saad Al Sharif, General Secretary of the Dubai Sports Council, presented the cup to Al Ahli in the presence of Marwan Bin Gulaitha, CEO of Al Nasr Club.

With key Al Nasr players Ali Karim and Adel Ali Al Rahi playing with injuries, Al Ahli did not have to wait long to take the lead as Portuguese striker Nuno Minguel cashed in on a misdirected backpass from Abbas Ali.

Madjer converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 within 17 seconds and Al Ahli were steaming ahead. Kamal Ali and Madjer added two more to make it 4-0 only to see Al Nasr pull one back through Iranian striker Hussain Ahmad Qurshid.

As the match entered the final period, Al Nasr’s desperation for a goal increased and this made them go for some ugly tackles on their opponents. With a little over one minute remaining, Madjer nodded in a deflection and the title was signed, sealed and delivered.

Al Ahli skipper Qambhar dedicated the Super Cup to Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Sports Council and to Al Ahli Club Board of Directors Chairman Saeed Naboodah.

“The club has backed us and believed in us at every step and it is now time to prove that we are the best and we deserve to win today,” the Al Ahli captain said.
